Strokes are a common cause of death and disability among older people, yet standards of care vary hugely.

This three-hour introductory / refresher course helps staff care effectively for people who have had a stroke.

- Motivation, support and rehabilitation
- Recognising and dealing with
   depression
- Manual handling issues
- Pressure area care
- Nutrition and hydration issues
- Communication issues
- The need for a multidisciplinary

- Preventing strokes
- Knowledge test

Lecture, group discussion, case studies
and practical exercises.

Students are assessed on the basis of
their performance of the exercises and
in the summative test at the end.
