To enable nursing and care staff to provide safe, effective care for people who have had a stroke

- Definition and prevalence of stroke
- Risk factors for stroke
- Motivation, support and rehabilitation
- Recognising and dealing with
depression
- Manual handling issues
- Pressure area care
- Nutrition and hydration issues
- Communication issues
- The need for a multidisciplinary
approach
- Preventing strokes
- Knowledge test
Lecture, group discussion, case studies
and practical exercises.
Students are assessed on the basis of
their performance of the exercises and
in the summative test at the end.
