Someone has collapsed and they're not breathing. The ambulance is coming, but what do you do next?

This seven-hour course is designed to help staff of all levels and disciplines give prompt, safe and effective first aid in an emergency.

To enable staff to provide prompt and effective first aid where they work.

Up to eight students

- Aims and priorities of first aid
- Approach and assessment
- Adult basic life support - CPR
- Unconsciousness and Bodycheck
- Choking
- Bleeding, shock and fractures
- Burns and scalds
- Poisoning
- Electrocution
- Epileptic seizures
- Legal issues
- Knowledge test

Lecture, group discussion and practical exercises.

Students are assessed on the basis of
their performance of the exercises and
in the summative test at the end.
