Bleeding. Bruising. Fractures. Hypothermia. Falls are a major cause of injury and disability among older people and how we respond can either help or worsen the situation.
This three-hour course helps nursing and care staff respond to falls in a prompt, safe and effective way, minimising the risk of further harm to the fallen person.

Nurses and Carers
To enable staff to respond to falls promptly, safely and effectively.
Up to 15 students
- Injuries associated with falls
- The CAT-TRIM fall response protocol
- Recognising fractures / head injuries
- Dangers of moving the injured
casualty
- Need to record all falls
- Knowledge test
Lecture, group discussion, case studies
and practical exercises.
Students are assessed on the basis of
their performance of the exercises and
in the summative test at the end.
- Care Standards Act regulations
- Skills for Care Induction Standards
- National Vocational Qualifications
- Voluntary Aid Societies guidelines
- Attendance forms
- Course notes / handouts
- Knowledge tests
- Training records
- Feedback forms
- Certificates of Achievement
