To enable staff to provide prompt and effective basic life support in an emergency.

Up to eight students

- The aim of basic life support
- When to use basic life support
- Features of a heart attack
- Responding to a heart attack
- Performing CPR
- Infection control issues
- When to stop CPR
- Records and legal issues
- Knowledge test

Lecture, group discussion and practical
exercises using a resuscitation manikin

Students are assessed on the basis of
their performance of the exercises and
in the summative test at the end.
