Falls are a major cause of injury and disability among older people yet many falls can be prevented!

This three-hour course helps nursing and care staff reduce the risk of falls among older people.

- Physical / psychological effects of falls
- Intrinsic / extrinsic causes of falls
- Key steps in reducing falls
- Fall risk assessment
- Environmental safety issues
- Multidisciplinary involvement

- Bedrail and restraint issues
- Knowledge test

Lecture, group discussion, case studies
and practical exercises.

Students are assessed on the basis of
their performance of the exercises and
in the summative test at the end.
